The Mount Pleasant Fire Department began its annual maintenance of more than 1,000 fire hydrants throughout the City on April 22 to ensure that in the event of a fire, firefighting teams have a reliable and adequate water supply to protect the Mount Pleasant community.

The work will include flushing water from each hydrant and measuring how many gallons of water per minute it provides. Flushing the water may cause a discoloration of the water, which could cause clothes being washed at that time to be discolored.

All hydrant maintenance will be conducted between 8 a.m. and noon on weekdays. It is advised that residents avoid washing clothes during this time frame when the MPFD is working in your area.
