Under a new coach, the Pewitt Brahma basketball team looks to put memories of last season’s 2-27 season behind them. Four games into the season, the Brahmas have already matched last year’s win total. Pewitt, under new head coach Chris Castle, has started the year with two wins in their first four games. Tigers drop hoops opener to New Boston
Despite having several members of their team still on the gridiron, the Daingerfield Tigers kicked off basketball season at home last Tuesday against the New Boston Lions. Although shorthanded, Coach Curtis Lewis’ Tigers hit the court running, taking the lead into the half and holding on to a one-point lead after three. New Boston battled their way back into the game and a late foul call against the Tigers followed by a turnover on the inbounds pass allowed the Lions to escape with a 51-48 win over Daingerfield. Braden Williams led the Tigers with 14 points. Skylar Smith and Keegan White each added 10. Xavier Rowden led New Boston with 11 points and Aiden Juarez added nine. Daingerfield traveled to Hooks Tuesday and will play in the Hughes Springs Tournament this weekend.

Tiger Basketball Comes In Second
The Mount Pleasant High School Varsity Tigers took second place in the Dallas Mavericks tournament this weekend. They went into the Championship game on Saturday 4-0, defeating Carrollton Creekview 62-38, Wylie 53-40, McKinney Boyd 45-44, and CE King 55-53. Their only loss came in the Championship game, where 6A Plano East defeated the Tigers 61-45. They named Reggie Webster and Carter Chism to the All-Tournament team. Joey Chism, Cameron Bates, Ira Franklin, James Moore, and Jay Turnipseed coach the Tigers.
