Franklin County Chipping Mill Heavily Damaged By Fire
Multiple fire departments worked a fire in Franklin County at a chipping mill Sunday morning around 12:40. A barn structure had a heavy fuel load of wood shavings and sawdust in the Purley area. The responding departments included Purley, Mt Vernon, South Franklin, Tri-Lakes, Pickton-Pine Forest, Saltillo, Brinker, Winnsboro, and Perryville, who cleared the scene around 7:00 am. Hopkins County EMS assisted with rehab for firefighting crews, with no injuries reported.
Multiple Franklin County crews respond to chipping mill fire
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A fire was reported in the Purley area at a commercial chipping mill, where piles of wood shavings and sawdust had caught flame. All Franklin County fire departments were dispatched to the mill fire at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday, where they found a pole barn structure with a heavy fuel load of wood shavings and sawdust, according to a post from the City of Mount Vernon Fire Department.

Bat found in Town Lake Park tests positive for rabies
AUSTIN, Texas — People are urged to take precautions after a bat that was found in Town Lake Park tested positive for rabies. Health officials say the bat was located on a stepping stone near the front of the walk area for dogs at Michael Butler Shores in Town Lake Park on Tuesday.
MPHS Fishes At State Competition
MPHS State fishing tournament qualifiers Clayton Miller (left) and Rolston Morton (right) Mount Pleasant High School junior Clayton Miller and sophomore Rolston Morton fished for MPHS in the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) state tournament at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir on May 20 and 21. Over 200 teams representing 120 schools, 1A-6A, from across the state competed in the state tournament. On day one, the team reeled in fish weighing 9.53 lbs. with day two, bringing in 8.70 lbs. Their two-day total included ten fish weighing a combined 18.23 lbs. Miller and Morton finished tied for 109th place out of 203 boats.

One-Hundred New Employees Start Work
Chick-fil-A Mount Pleasant is opens for business. The local Owner/Operator, Chuck Howard, looks forward to serving the Mount Pleasant community. The restaurant employs 100 full and part-time Team Members. In honor of the opening, Chick-fil-A will donate $25,000 to Feeding America, distributed to local partners to aid in the fight against hunger. Chick-fil-A Mount Pleasant will also participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table™ Program that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to needy nonprofits.
Active Shooter Drill At Mt Pleasant
Mount Pleasant ISD Director of Safety and Security Hayes Lesher and Mount Pleasant Fire Chief Larry McRae was preparing for what’s become a necessity. McRae said it was about the fifth exercise Mt Pleasant has had in the last ten or fifteen years. Response personnel needed to learn precisely when or where in the school it would happen. A lot of students participated from the school. They had local responders, fire, police, EMS, and some school administrators to observe. It started around 9:30 Wednesday morning when a man acting as an active shooter entered the building. The emergency drill in MPISD concluded Wednesday morning at 10:45. Officials will now analyze the actions of those involved in the planned active shooter situation at the high school.

Marietta man receives kidney from another Marietta man
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Evan Benson has recently received a kidney from the late Ryan Osborne. Osborne passed away in Texas and his family who lives in Marietta knew that Benson was in need of a kidney.
