DALLAS (KDAF) — Lake Monticello , one of Texas’ largest private lakes, is now on the market.

Listed by Hortenstine Ranch Company , the property near Mount Pleasant includes 5,700 acres with a private lake of 2,001 acres, plus a 66 acre trophy bass lake.

With approximately 17 miles of lake frontage and a drainage basin of about 36 square miles, Lake Monticello is a picturesque retreat for outdoor enthusiasts and investors alike. Adding to the uniqueness is an additional 1.24 miles of lake frontage on Lake Bob Sandlin, providing the one and only piece of property with access to both lakes. This property is listed at $131 million.

After originally being used as a cooling reservoir for the former Monticello power plant, the lake was opened to the public in 1973 and quickly became a popular fishing spot. With the closure of the power plant in 2018, the lake’s warm water source ceased, but its popularity for fishing, swimming, and recreation continued. Public boat ramp access was terminated in 2019, and the lake is now privately owned.

This beautiful and extensive property is located just under two hours east of downtown Dallas and one hour west of Texarkana by way of Interstate 30.
