CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Police officers in the Lowcountry are hosting their annual Fallen Officer’s Memorial Service to honor those who perished in the line of duty on Wednesday.

The SC Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3 is holding the memorial service to support the loved ones who were left behind, along with their fellow law enforcement officers, authorities say.

Each name will be read during the ceremony, including K-9 Officers, followed by a 21-gun salute to close out the ceremony.

“I am honored to speak for the other local area FOP lodge presidents and their members when I say that this memorial service, while is important, cannot bring these fine officers back to us, but we can take the time to remember them and their sacrifice,” said John Blackmon, the current State Lodge President and local Tri-County Lodge 3 President.

The service includes officers from Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester Counties, dating back from 1878 to the present.

The service will take place at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall starting at 11 a.m.
