    Woman accused of burning Bible

    A Mount Airy woman is facing a felony charge for allegedly burning property belonging to another city resident — including her Bible.

    The Mount Airy Police Department released details this week of the incident that resulted in five violations altogether against Angie Ernestine Creed, 38, of 217 Depot St., who was jailed under a $12,000 secured bond.

    These include the felony charge of burning personal property along with larceny, possession of stolen goods, communicating threats and second-degree trespassing.

    The victim is the case is listed as Dana Waring Brooks, a Factory Street resident.

    Creed is charged in connection with an incident on the night of April 24 at the home of Brooks, where she burned property owned by the victim, arrest records state. Included was a Bible valued at $20, with an engineering book also listed among the affected items.

    In addition, Creed allegedly stole miscellaneous photographs owned by Brooks for which no value was given.

    A member of the Mount Airy Fire Department reported last week’s incident to police, who arrested Creed the next day while armed with a search warrant.

    Creed went before a magistrate who set the large secured bond in the case, with Creed subsequently confined in the Surry County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 1.
