Old barn destroyed by fire
On June 6 shortly before midnight, 54 firefighters from Calvert County companies were dispatched to a barn fire on Wayside Drive in Sunderland. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze destroyed a 100-year-old 50-by-100-foot pole barn owned by the Farrell family. Crews brought the flames under control in 50 minutes. The fire marshal’s office reported the blaze “was discovered when it was well-advanced throughout the structure.” The fire originated inside the barn and damage is estimated at $100,000. No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information that could aid investigators is asked to call the fire marshal’s Southern Regional office at 410-414-3600.
Election judges to get raises in November
