BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A man was killed Wednesday morning after a car accident in Bedford County.

Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) said that they were called to Hyndman Road at the intersection of Allegheny Road in Manns Choice Borough at around 10:30 a.m. on May 15 for a car accident. The accident was between a 2016 Ford Focus and a 2019 Peterbilt 389.

The Ford was being driven by Walter Kwapien, 70, of Morgantown, West Virginia. Kwapien stopped at the stop sign on Allegheny Road before attempting to cross Hyndman Road, according to PSP. He then pulled into the Peterbilt’s lane of travel and that truck was unable to slow down or stop in time.

The Ford was struck and overturned several times before it came to a final rest on its roof, police noted. Police added that Kwapien had to be freed from the vehicle.

He was taken to UPMC Bedford but was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the Peterbilt was unharmed.
