MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) of North Central West Virginia hosted its annual Spring Bash Luncheon on Sunday to encourage membership.

The WGC is a philanthropic endeavor, which funds nonprofits that empower women and girls. Since 2014, they have given over $145,000 in grants. The WGC’s most recent grant recipients, including Saint Ursula’s Pantry and Pantry Plus More, were at the luncheon to discuss the impact they’ve had on the community.

Chair of WGC Bessie Fooks expressed her pride in being a part of the organization.

“In 2014, 17 women met together and decided that they wanted to start Women’s Giving Circle, or a place that women could give money that would be grassroots and that would be targeted toward North Central West Virginia,” Fooks said.

“They got together, they took up money and they gave out their first grants, and as it went along it mushroomed.”

Previous causes that the WGC has funded include projects that provide women and young girls with resources for personal hygiene, along with helping to fund videos that educate people about sex trafficking and “encourage women and girls to stand in their personal authority.”

The WGC has an endowment that has grown to over $130,000 to ensure that the WGC can make an impact for years to come.
