MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Scouts from across West Virginia are at Camp Mountaineer for the St. George Camporee, a weekend of faith, fellowship, community service and plenty of fun activities.

The camporee is a weekend-long summer camp that emphasizes community service and concludes with a service given by bishop Mark E. Brennan of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. Through a partnership with the Mon River Trails Conservancy , scouts helped with trail maintenance projects like invasive species removal along the Falling Run Trail and water erosion control on the Mon River Trail.

Unit Service Executive Laurel Muhly-Alexander said the weekend is all about remembering one of the core tenets of scouting, “duty to God.”

“It’s just a great opportunity, both to give [back] to the community and to have some fun on a really nice weekend,” Muhly-Alexander said.

Scouts also helped with prep work for the Handmade Market that was held in Morgantown’s Wharf District on Saturday evening.
