Yes, it’s also the home to the WVU Mountaineers, a truly unique college football environment in the Fall.

But, Morgantown offers more than that and we highlight 2 things you probably didn’t know about Morgantown:

Home of Don Knotts

Before he was ‘Don Knotts’—Emmy Award-winning actor and TV personality— he was Jesse Donald Knotts, born on July 21, 1924 in Morgantown, WV. Knotts lived in the boarding home owned and operated by his mother, and later attended Morgantown High School. Knotts would then go on to enlist in the Army and serve during World World II. He earned a degree in Education at WVU after the war.

When Don died in 2006 a statue was placed of him in front of the Metropolitan Theater. Still today 1000s stop to get their picture taken. Knotts was best known as the bumbling and excitable Deputy Barney Fife on the classic Andy Griffith Show. Knotts also did such comedy classics as The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Shakiest Gun In The West . Towards the end of his career, he re-surfaced on the popular sit-com Three’s Company as Mr. Furley.

Pepperoni Rolls

Pepperoni rolls are soft, pillow rolls of pepperoni and mozzarella cheese with a garlic butter finish. They were first made as a portable lunch for coal miners. The rolls didn’t need refrigeration and could be carried with them underground. You can find this classic simple meal across West Virginia.

These rolls are so good, it’s the official food of the State of West Virginia.

But, in Morgantown, they take particular pride in their pepperoni rolls. Some of the best stops for a good pepperoni roll include Phoenix Bakery, Lefty’s Place and the Home of the famous Julia’s Pepperoni Roll: Chico’s Bakery just outside of town.
