Montclair is welcoming a brand new restaurant entering town that specializes in Portuguese and Spanish cuisine named TASCA.

The new business will be located right across from the Wellmont Theater at 377 Bloomfield Ave. The grand opening for TASCA is Friday.

The restaurant name comes from the term that refers to a small eatery in Portugal and Spain that usually serves homemade daily dishes.

Founder Sergio Moutela said in a Facebook post introducing the new business to the neighborhood that he has a passion for "wanting to bringing the rich culinary heritage of the Iberian Peninsula to life in a fresh and exciting way." He was raised in a Portuguese household and has come to deeply love his food and culture. He is also the owner and executive chef of Torino, an Italian restaurant in Metuchen, and previously owned Melovino Meadery.

Moutela will work alongside Chef Robert Santello who is described as a "visionary in the kitchen" in the TASCO introduction post on social media. He has experience serving in Heirloom Kitchen, Heirloom St Laurent and Alta NYC. Santello has cooked many different types of dishes over his career and is excited to elevate the taste of Portuguese and Spanish meals.

Their menu can be found online. The modern Iberian bistro has a current menu that consists of starters such as smoked whitefish pate served with flat bread, piri-piri cucumber, radish, and vinho verde reduction and their porto panzanella salad which includes heirloom tomato, broa croutons, baby corn and port vinaigrette.

TASCA has four menu items under segundo (second) and four under tericeiro (third). The segundo menu includes squid and chourico, seared foie gras, farm bean feijoada and tri-color cauliflower, and tericeiro features monkfish, ribeye, duck rice and Spanish "meatballs." They also have a dessert menu that currently features a croissant doughnut with custard filling called Pastel de Nata Cronut and a cheese board along with other items. Red or white wines is available at the eatery as well.
