Editor's note: This story has been updated with a change from the business about the promotion on Monday, May 13.

MONROE — Rebecca Shannon of Dundee grew up in the pizza business. Her parents, Patrick and Carole Shannon of Milan, opened a Hungry Howie’s in their hometown 28 years ago.

At the age of 3, Shannon started folding pizza boxes and as she grew, her role in the family business changed.

In 2018, Shannon became a franchisee with her first store in Adrian.

She now runs the family’s seven Hungry Howie's pizza shops with locations in Adrian, Dundee, Milan, Monroe, Saline and Toledo.

The 27-year-old said she’s excited to have a location in downtown Monroe.

Although the business opened its doors on May 1, the official opening day of Hungry Howie’s at 601 S. Monroe St. is Monday, May 13. It’s the second location in Monroe for the Shannon family.

In celebration of the new business, the store will offer exclusive promotions including free pizzas for the first 50 orders placed.

"I am incredibly excited to expand the Hungry Howie’s brand in the Monroe community,” Rebecca Shannon said. "As someone who has grown with the brand since a young age, it's been an honor to grow Hungry Howie’s presence in the Monroe market. To celebrate, we are kicking off our weeklong celebration with special offers for the Monroe community."

Hungry Howie’s newest Monroe location's opening celebrations include:

    • Monday, May 13: The first 50 orders will receive coupons for a free pizza on their next visit.
    • Tuesday, May 14: 10% of all proceeds from any purchase will be donated to Humane Society of Monroe County.
    • Wednesday, May 15: 10% of all proceeds from any purchase will be donated to Paula’s House.
    • Thursday, May 16, to Sunday, May 19: 51% off any regular priced pizza (carryout orders placed online only)

“We’ve been in the community for 10 years. We opened the one store on Telegraph in 2014,” Shannon said. “We always wanted to branch out and reach more of the community with our food and customer service.”

She said they found the land on South Monroe Street in 2021 and it took a long time to build from the ground up.

“This is our first store that we’ve build from the ground up,” she said. “We’re very happy to be open 2 1/2 years later and being downtown to be more involved in the community and able to reach out to organizations and groups to collaborate on things.”

The Monroe store will feature Hungry Howie’s flavored crust pizza options along with a selection of calzone-style oven-baked subs, Howie bread, rolls and wings, fresh salads, and dessert. The location also offers curbside pickup, traditional in-store takeout services and delivery to surrounding areas.
