    3 of 9 Monroe County commissioner races contested

    MONROE — Only one Monroe County race for county commissioner will have a primary in August to determine the Republican nominee, and just three of the nine local commissioner races will be contested in the Nov. 5 general election.

    Republicans Brandon Ansel and Brian Lamour, both of Monroe, are vying to be the Republican nominee in the District 5 county commissioner primary race on Aug. 6. The nominee selected in August will face Democrat Bill LaVoy of Monroe in November. The current District 5 commissioner is Randy Richardville. District 5 covers portions of the city of Monroe and Frenchtown Township.

    Richardville is among a group of Republicans running to be Frenchtown Township's supervisor.

    Two other districts will have contested county commissioner races in November.

    In District 4, Republican incumbent Jay Heinzerling of Monroe will face Democrat Jesse M. Riggs of Newport. District 4 covers portions of Frenchtown Township.

    In District 6, Republican incumbent David P. Vensel of Monroe will face Democrat Jerry McKart of Monroe. District 6 covers portions of the city of Monroe and Monroe and Frenchtown townships.

    The other six county commissioner races are not contested.

    Incumbent Republican David C. Hoffman of Dundee seeks re-election in District 1, which covers Dundee, Summerfield and Ida townships and Petersburg and Dundee.

    Incumbent Republican Mark Brant of Monroe seeks re-election in District 2, which covers Milan, London, Exeter and Raisinville townships and Milan and Maybee villages.

    Incumbent Republican Dawn Asper of Carleton seeks re-election in District 3, which covers Ash and Berlin townships and Carleton, South Rockwood and Estral Beach.

    Incumbent Republican David G. Swartout of Monroe seeks re-election in District 7, which covers LaSalle and Erie townships, Luna Pier and portions of Monroe Township.

    Incumbent Republican Greg Moore Jr. of Temperance seeks re-election in District 8, which includes portions of Beford Township.

    Incumbent Republican J. Henry Lievens of Lambertville seeks re-election in District 9, which includes Whiteford Township and portions of Bedford Township.
