Three young men attempted to rob a service station at the foot of Vail Pass, the Eagle Valley Enterprise reported. The men “ran into tough luck when their 1941 Plymouth ran out of gas Wednesday afternoon, a half mile below the service station on the south end of Vail Pass,” the Enterprise reported. “The young men, all in their early twenties, hiked back to the station and asked for gas. George Claypool, manager of the station, offered to drive the boys back to their car, with the can of gas and the boys drove back to the station to fill the tank.”
