    1930s Locomotive to visit Minot in continental tour

    MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Canada Pacific Kansas City Limited (CPKC)’s final spike steam tour will bring the historic Empress Steam Engine to Minot on April 30.

    To commemorate the the first anniversary of the final spike of CPKC’s continental rail (connecting Canada, the US, and Mexico), CPKC’s historic Empress Steam Locomotive is touring all three North American countries and will be stopping in Minot on April 30.

    Things to do around town: April 29-May 5

    The event is free to the public and is set for 4 – 7 p.m. at Minot’s Main Street North railway crossing, featuring:

    • The historic Empress 2816, a remarkable 4-6-4 Hudson-type steam locomotive dating back to 1930
    • Information on CPKC’s rich history and tales of the railway’s legacy
    • The Puffer Belly Express mini-train, a rideable, quarter-scale steam locomotive model
    • additional free activities including arts and crafts for children
