    Grundy County authorities seize over 200 grams of fentanyl, nearly $2K in traffic stop; 2 charged

    GRUNDY COUNTY, Ill. — A traffic stop in the southwest suburbs last week resulted in the seizure of more than 200 grams of fentanyl and almost $2,000 in cash, according to a press release from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department.

    According to the release, around 3 p.m. last week Wednesday (May 1), members of the Grundy County Proactive Unit pulled over a Toyota for a speeding violation on the Ridge Road off-ramp of Interstate 80 in Minooka.

    After speaking with the driver and passenger of the vehicle, the release states, officers observed cannabis in plain view that was not properly packaged. They conducted a search of the vehicle and found 307 bags suspected of containing fentanyl and weighing 216.5 grams, along with $1,961, according to authorities.

    Both occupants of the vehicle, Eugene Walker, 32, of Chicago and Christopher Sherry, 42, of Homer Glen, were taken into custody on charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl), 100-400 grams.

    That’s a Class X felony in Illinois, which calls for mandatory sentencing.

    According to authorities, Walker was transported to the Grundy County Jail, where he was held pending a pre-trial release hearing. Sherry was taken to an area hospital due to health issues, where he was cited and released with a court date.
