Longtime Central NY radio personality dies at 78; helped launch TK99
A longtime Central New York radio personality who helped launch TK99 in the 1990s has died at age 78. Gary W. Gallup, known on the air as “Bob Paris,” died May 4 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. According to his obituary, Gallup was a Mattydale resident who had been battling leukemia.

Classic rock band replaces longtime member with a familiar name
Classic rock band Styx has officially replaced longtime bassist Ricky Phillips, who left the band in March, days before a Syracuse concert. Styx announced that Terry Gowan will be the band’s new bassist. He first started performing in Phillips’ place in the spring and will be part of the group on its upcoming tour dates, including a July 30 concert with Foreigner at the Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. Calling all Deadheads: There’s a new music festival in Central New York for you. “Grateful Getaway: An Enchanting Cosmic Odyssey Through the Grateful Dead’s Musical Wonderland,” is an 11-day event set to take place Aug. 1-11 at Wonderland Forest near LaFayette, N.Y. Each night will feature performances of the Grateful Dead’s music by tribute bands and artists with ties to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group, including the Sam Grisman Project and Melvin Seals & JGB.

Hozier at Empower FCU Amphitheater: Huge crowd, traffic expected for Syracuse concert
If you’re going to Hozier’s Syracuse concert tonight, plan to arrive early. The “Too Sweet” singer is headlining the first show of the 2024 season at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview (formerly known as St. Joe’s Amp) on Tuesday, May 21. The concert is sold out, so a huge crowd is expected — the Amp’s official capacity is 17,500 but sometimes they pack in a few hundred more on the lawn — and traffic will likely be heavy on Interstate 690 as fans arrive.

VanSanford, Frost Receive First Hamer Music Awards At Celebration Of Community Music
G. Ray Bodley seniors Douglas VanSanford and Braeden Frost received the first Mary A. and Ernest A. Hamer Music Awards at The Fulton Music Association’s (FMA) 23rd Annual Celebration of Community Music, Saturday, May 11, at the G. Ray Bodley High School (GRB) Auditorium, it was announced by Steve Chirello, FMA president. Each Hamer award was $1,000. In addition, FMA Senior awards of $500 each were presented to Dawson Krause and Ashley Taplin. Luigi Giacomucci, GRB band director, emceed the event, and Bradford Hamer and Debra Hamer Rogers, children of the Hamers, presented the Hamer awards.
