Westonka names Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Award winner
Mound Westonka High School is proud to name senior Jack Nelson as the 2024 male recipient of the Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Award. Other nominees for the annual outstanding male athlete award were Brett Bartkowicz, Connor Esposito, Jack Markstrom, Lucas Markstrom, Mikey Oftedahl, Charlie Paul and Carter Reinbold. The award began as the Yost Award in 1953, honoring the late Frank Yost, a local pharmacist and ardent community sports supporter who died in 1952. Maple Grove’s Ava Lee takes silver at Pan Am Championship
On May 3, the 2024 Pan Am Championships were held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The Pan Am Championships is an event where it draws the top Pan American athletes in the region and is held once a year. Ava Lee, an instructor and competition team member at the World Taekwondo Academy, was the only Minnesotan to qualify and compete at this event. With her world ranking she received a first-round bye and then defeated Canada, Mexico, and losing a tough one to Cuba in the finals taking home a silver medal. Lee is a senior at Maple Grove High Senior School and after graduating she will head to Mexico for another major event in July. She will continue to train and prepare for the 2028 Olympics.

Tigers return to conference play at Oak Ridge Country Club
HOPKINS – After a mini break from conference play, the Delano boys golf team returned to conference action at Oak Ridge Country Club May 9. As a team, Delano finished in a tie for third place along with Hutchinson. They both posted a score of 336. Holy Family secured the top spot once again with a team score of 295 while Southwest Christian took second place with a team score of 314.
