The NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award was recently given to Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert. This marks Gobert's fourth time winning the award, becoming just the third player in NBA history to reach that feat.

There were two other main candidates for the award in San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo. Wembanyama was able to make his name heard, garnering votes for first place, but it was Gobert at the end of the race.

Wembanyama was asked about Gobert potentially winning the award earlier this season and responded with, "Let him win it now, because after that, it's no longer his turn," via Bleacher Report.

While Wembanayma wasn't able to secure the trophy, he was a clear candidate as a rookie. He showed his versatility and elite shot-blocking ability, making his mark in just one year.

This can come across as a cocky remark from Wembanyama, but it's simply true confidence in his craft, knowing he'll only get better with time in the league.
