Tim Legler explains why Wemby is a better talent than Ant: "This is uncharted territory here"

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar guard Anthony Edwards is the talk of town with his scintillating performances in the current playoffs.

Ant-Man is playing at such a high level that he's being compared to the one and only Michael Jordan already, but if you ask former NBA three-point king Tim Legler , he is still talking 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama over Edwards if he were to pick between the two future faces of the league.

"I think that when you look at what potentially is the upside for Victor Wembanyama, a lot of the same characteristics that Anthony Edwards has," said Legler during his recent appearance on the ' Dan Patrick Show .'

No one can cover the same amount of ground on defense as Wemby

Like Ant, Legler says that Wemby can escape off the dribble. The Spurs big man can shoot turnaround jumpers, hit step-back jump shots, and finish off the dribble. However, what makes Victor unique is the kind of defensive plays he can make, given his size and length.

According to Legler, Wembanyama can cover an insane amount of ground on defense with his length, but it's not just that. The French phenom also acts as the last line of defense because of his shot-blocking ability. Tim argues that no one in the league—not even Giannis—can make those plays.

"Every night, I watched Victor Wembanyama the second half of the year. I felt I saw at least one play in that game and I felt like that's the only player in the league that can do that. And so when you combine all of what he can do, the scoring, the defense, eventually the passing will get there as well. I just think, man, with a 7'5" frame and handle like a guard, this is uncharted territory here that we're getting into with Victor Wembanyama," added Legler.

One of the greatest rookie seasons ever

Wembanyama was the No.1 overall pick of last year's draft and was the most hyped prospect since LeBron James. While there was no questioning his otherworldly talents, critics wondered if his body would be able to withstand the NBA's physically grueling 82-game regular season. Well, Wemby proved them wrong and more with one of the greatest rookie seasons ever seen.

The Frenchman averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and an NBA-best 3.6 blocks per game. Wemby also became the first player in NBA history with 500+ points, 250+ assists, 250+ blocks, and 100+ three-pointers in a single season. He is also the first player ever to average 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, 3+ blocks, and one three-pointer made per contest in the NBA.

Edwards is having one of the best starts in the playoffs. In six games played so far, Ant is averaging 32.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game for the still-undefeated Timberwolves. While Anthony may be entering MJ territory in terms of his postseason performances, there's no doubt that Wemby's upside is far greater because of his size and length.
