    Minneapolis restaurant Saffron, which closed in 2016, to return

    Former Minneapolis restaurant Saffron, which is credited with leading the introduction of Middle Eastern fine dining in the Twin Cities, is set to make a comeback, Chef Sameh Wadi has announced.

    Wadi unveiled his plans in an interview with the Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, which first reported the news Tuesday .

    Wadi and his brother Saed Wadi also co-own World Street Kitchen and Milkjam Creamery.

    "Thank you for all the love and supportive words regarding Saffron!" Wadi wrote in an Instagram post, adding he's still looking for a location to reopen his restaurant in Minneapolis or the surrounding area.

    Saffron Restaurant and Lounge opened in the Warehouse District in 2007 and closed in 2016 when the brothers decided not to renew its lease, reportedly over building maintenance issues.

    "His menu spanned the Middle East, North Africa and entire the Mediterranean region, and quickly drew acclaim for his skill and the food's "sheer, unadulterated deliciousness," a Star Tribune article recounts .

    "It also made Wadi, who grew up in a Palestinian home in Kuwait, one of the most influential chefs in the Twin Cities."
