Minneapolis police are looking for suspects after a 14-year old boy was shot at a gas station overnight and later died.

Police say it happened around 3:00 a.m. on the 2600 block of University Avenue Northeast.

Preliminary information indicates the teen was in an SUV with other occupants when shots were fired from a second vehicle. Police say the SUV he was in was not stolen, but it's unclear whether or not the suspect vehicle was.

The injured teenager was transported to Hennepin Healthcare. Approximately three hours later, the teenager died at the hospital.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara calls the teen's death "outrageous and totally unacceptable.

“Teenagers, Kia’s and Hyundai’s, and guns have become a common recipe for violent crime and tragedy,” said O’Hara. “The death of a teenager out on the street is outrageous and totally unacceptable. The MPD will aggressively investigate this incident to its logical conclusion and do all we can to bring some sense of justice for the victim and his loved ones, but we all must work together to end this trend of youth violence.”

Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area. MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected evidence. MPD is investigating to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.

Anyone who suspicious activity involving these types of vehicles with multiple teenagers is asked to immediately call 911 or call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
