Welding Student Elizabeth Perdue Wins First Place, $10,000 at WVUP Pitch Competition
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - One student at West Virginia University at Parkersburg won $10,000 for her idea of a mobile welding business. Elizabeth Perdue, a Welding student at WVUP, placed first in the second round of the WVUP Pitch Competition. The second round took place on May 17, 2024 at the WVU Parkersburg Theater.
Waverly baseball shuts out Washington, advances to Division II regional finals
ATHENS — Hunter Hauck shook his nerves as he stepped up for his final inning on the mound. The Waverly pitcher had thrown six shutout innings to that point. All Thursday afternoon, Hauck stood firm on the mound, fighting nerves and the blustering winds that blew in from the northwest over Bob Wren Stadium. Waverly held a two-run lead over Washington heading into the seventh inning of the Division II regional semifinals, and all Hauck needed was three outs.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The Charleston Catholic Irish won their fourth state baseball title in the last dozen years Saturday afternoon at GoMart Ballpark as they defeated Williamstown 6-3. After falling behind 1-0 early in the game, the Irish scored the next six runs and held off a late Yellowjackets rally to finish the year with a 31-4 record while Williamstown is 30-6.
