The Friends of Downtown Hendersonville announced in a May 1 news release when its 2024 Bearfootin' Bears will be revealed. The unveiling of the 20 new bears, painted by local artists and auctioned off later in the year to benefit local nonprofits, will be from 5:30-7 p.m. May 8 on the outdoor Hendersonville Welcome Center stage, 201 S. Main St., the release said.

FAIRVIEW, N.C. (WTVD) -- The bear cub recently pulled from a tree to take selfies is recovering at a wildlife refuge in Candler, North Carolina. It happened in mid-April. A group of people at an apartment complex found a pair of black bear cubs in a tree. They went into the tree, pulled both of the bears out of the tree and then started taking pictures and videos with them.
