Louisville breaks ground on three new CHIP houses
Louisville council officially broke ground Thursday, May 30, on the lots where they plan to build three new homes in the coming year. “We’re here to celebrate the fact that we’re building three new homes that will be proudly owned by three new homeowners,” said Mayor Jenny Smith. “Home ownership is such a dream for our people and for our town.”

Statesboro to host regional forestry meeting on June 13
On Thursday, June 13, Statesboro will host its first Regional Forestry Meeting of the year. The Georgia Forestry Association’s Regional Forestry Meetings are planned in locations across the state to bring together the entire forestry sector to discuss the most important issues for that region. GFA facilitates these meetings through local advisory committees that include local GFA members, the Georgia Forestry Commission and the University of Georgia’s Cooperative Extension Service. Georgia Southern BIG offering free franchise seminar Tuesday
The Georgia Southern Business Innovation Group will host a free seminar on purchasing a franchise on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 5:30-6:30pm. The seminar will take place at the BIG City Campus located at 58 E. Main St. in downtown Statesboro. The no-cost seminar will explore the initial steps to purchasing a franchise, including creating a business plan, identifying opportunities, and understanding financing options. Panelists will include Valerie McElveen from the UGA Small Business Developement Center at Georgia Southern; Caroline Nelson, President of Bulloch First Bank; and Britt Hendrix, an experienced franchise owner. Andy Bonifay taking over as TJA’s new head of school
After two years teaching in the classroom and coaching on the baseball diamond at Thomas Jefferson Academy, Andy Bonifay is taking over as its new Headmaster. “We identified early on that Mr. Bonifay had a lot of the characteristics that would make a good leader,” said former head of school Cathy Tiner. “This year they went through the process of posting the job and accepted applicants from outside the school. I was excited to see someone from within our school who wanted to take a leadership role. After the interview process Mr. Bonifay was narrowed down and that’s who the board selected.”
