MILFORD A local man was ordered held without bail on Monday after his arraignment on charges he struck another man with his vehicle early last Saturday on Winter Street, authorities said.

Police said Alejandro Gonzalez, 28, became upset with the other man, a 40-year-old Milford resident who was walking nearby, at about 4 a.m. Saturday when the man went to check on Gonzalez, whose car was stopped on Winter Street.

The victim was driven by a friend to Milford Regional Medical Center to be treated for undisclosed injuries, according to police. He has since been released.

The victim told police he came upon a car stopped in the middle of the road, so he went to check on its driver, according to Milford police Sgt. Kevin O'Loughlin. Gonzalez became angry and the victim walked away.

"The suspect then came over and ran the victim over.," O'Loughlin said.

When police responded to the scene, they found some of the victim's property on the ground beside a pool of blood.

An investigation by Milford police and the Central Mass. Law Enforcement Council led to them to Gonzalez, police said. They arrested him and charged him with assault and battery with the intent to murder; leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury; driving to endanger; and driving without a license.

Gonzalez was arraigned Monday in Milford District Court , where he was ordered held without bail. He is due back in court May 13 for a hearing to determine whether he is a danger to the public.

The name of Gonzalez's lawyer was not immediately available.
