Highway 23 construction between Milaca and Ogilvie starting in May

MnDOT will resurface and improve 12 miles of Highway 23 from Milaca to east of Ogilvie, which includes shoulders, underground drainage structures and updates to access. It will be on Highway 23 from east of Mille Lacs County Road 2/105th Ave. in Milaca to the Groundhouse River east of Ogilvie, Kanabec County. The project will require detours and is expected to begin in mid-May until late October 2024.

Summary of work

- Resurface (asphalt) road and shoulders

- Update access:

*Realign 100th Ave./Mille Lacs County Road 101 east of Milaca and install left turn lanes on Highway 23

*Install left turn lanes on Highway 23 at 90th Ave./Mille Lacs County Road 144

- Replace three drainage structures:

*Pipe between 78th Ave. and 165th St., west of Bock

*Box bridge east of Cable St./Kanabec County Road 52, east of Bock

*Box bridge at South Fork Groundhouse River between 50th Ave. and Bear St., east of Bock

Traffic plans

Overall motorists will encounter:

- Lane closures, alternate one-way traffic, flaggers, pilot car

- Reduced speed limit

- Detours to replace drainage structures:

*Milaca to Bock detour: Mille Lacs County Road 2, County Road 4 and County Roaf 1 (about 9 weeks)

*Bock to Ogilvie: Mille Lacs County Road 24, Kanabec County Road 26 and Highway 47 (about 6 weeks)

- Access will be open to those who live, work or visit those along the work zone; however, expect changes and use of alternate accesses
