MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A fiery crash on Monday, May 6, left one man dead and four others injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that around 6:30 p.m., on Monday, May 6, a crash involving three vehicles occurred on Midland roads FM-1788 and CR-140.

33-year-old driver, Lorenzo Najera from Midland, was traveling southbound in a Ford vehicle, on FM-1788 with two passengers inside, including a woman and two children.

The Reports showed that Najera attempted to pass a towed trailer that was traveling southbound in front of him, however, he failed to pass to the right safely and hit the trailer, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and drive into oncoming traffic.

DPS reports stated that after driving into oncoming traffic, Najera crashed into a Chevrolet that was traveling northbound on FM-1788, which caused the Ford vehicle to get thrown east, off the roadway, where it then caught on fire.

Reports showed that the Midland County Death investigator pronounced 33-year-old driver Lorenzo Najera dead at the scene. DPS reported that the passengers inside, a woman and two children, along with the driver of the Chevrolet were all transported to the Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, and that the driver of the trailer was left unharmed by the accident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the crash remains under investigation and that no further information is available.
