    Mancini Award winners announced: Mars, Slippery Rock & Riverside the top winners

    MIDLAND ― Winners were announced Sunday for the Henry Mancini Awards celebrating outstanding student achievement in high school musical theater in Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

    The nominees gathered at the annual Mancini Awards ceremony at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland to perform musical numbers from their spring musicals and to learn who earned coveted Mancini trophies.

    This year's Mancini winners:

    Best Actor: Anderson Franco, Slippery Rock High School for "Disney's Newsies."Best Actress: Bella McKivigan, Freeport Area High School for "Chicago: Teen Edition."Best Supporting Actor: Pietro Pucci, Ambridge Area High School, for "The Drowsy Chaperone."Best Supporting Actress: Lauren Howard, Knoch High School for "Hello, Dolly!"

    The two Pittsburgh CLO Academy Scholarship winners were Mars High's Dominic Speranza andSlippery Rock's John Barkley.

    Mars Area took home the most Mancini awards with seven. Riverside topped all Beaver County schools with five.

    Sixteen schools participated this year.

    The Best Actor and Best Actress winners earn a spot in thr National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards), a nine-day experience including private coaching, master classes and rehearsals with theater professionals. Their journey concludes with a production on stage at Broadway’s Minskoff Theater, home of Disney’s "The Lion King."
