MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Texas Department of Transportation will be opening a new entrance ramp and exit ramp from Interstate 20 near Loop 250 in May, as part of the ongoing Midkiff bridge project.

TxDOT said in a release on Tuesday that a new westbound exit ramp will be opening just east of Loop 250 in early May. This permanent feature of the Midkiff bridge project will provide westbound traffic with a more convenient exit to Loop 250.

A new westbound entrance ramp will also open a week later in the same area. Both ramps will provide increased access for westbound I-20 drivers between State Highway 349 and FM 1788.

The bridge at County Road 1250 is complete and carrying traffic. The bridge decks for the Midkiff and Cotton Flat bridges are complete and concrete paving has begun on the main lanes approaching both bridges. Cotton Flat has also been connected to the frontage roads.

TxDOT said travelers are seeing crews work nights, days, and weekends to complete this paving and open Midkiff and Cotton Flat to northbound and southbound traffic as soon as possible.

James Construction was awarded the Midkiff bridge project with a bid of approximately $36.3 million. FNF construction was awarded the adjacent Cotton Flat bridge project with a bid of approximately $68.5 million.
