MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) – Middletown police are investigating a robbery Monday at a gas station, which police say could have ties to other crimes that occurred throughout the morning.

”We had two vehicles approach the Sunoco on Washington Street.  Five masked men got out of the vehicles and proceeded to rob the clerk,” said Middletown Police Deputy Chief Richard Davis.

When officers arrived on the scene, they learned from the store clerk that four men wearing masks and gloves entered the store and stole items, including around $1,200 and over $5,000 in merchandise.

The deputy chief said after watching security footage, police believe crimes that also took place Monday morning in surrounding towns are related.

Bloomfield police are investigating a robbery that occurred around 3:30 a.m. at a Shell gas station on Blye Hills Avenue. A preliminary investigation showed that three people wearing masks walked into the store and stole two cash registers.

Police in East Granby are also investigating armed robberies that occurred at the Pride Gas Station on Rainbow Road and the Cumberland Farms on Rainbow Road.

”The vehicles involved kind correspond with ours. I know the two vehicles involved with our were stolen vehicles,” Deputy Chief Davis.

The suspects fled the scenes in a white Ford Fusion and a dark-colored SUV.
