Middletown eyeing changes for Route 3, Route 66 corridors

Traffic in Middletown could be in for a major makeover as the city studies ways to improve safety along several busy corridors. The city is participating in the federally funded Safe Streets and Roads for All study, which is examining traffic and safety along Route 3, Route 66, Route 17, and Saybrook Road.

Enfield Station Construction Begins on the Hartford Line

ENFIELD, Conn. — Governor Ned Lamont and Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said on October 28 that construction has started on a new train station in Enfield’s Thompsonville neighborhood. The Connecticut Department of Transportation project is part of the Hartford Line Rail Program and is planned to restore passenger rail service to the town for the first time since 1986. The station fills a gap of about 15 miles between Springfield Union Station and Windsor Locks. Officials held a groundbreaking at the site that day.

Buckland Street, the stretch of pavement running past the Shoppes at Buckland Hills and the cluster of restaurants, retail plazas and a movie theater that surround it, has recorded 1,144 crashes since 2016 — more than any other road in Manchester. The corridor's four busiest intersections also top the town's list for frequent wrecks, making the Buckland Hills retail district both the town's commercial engine and its most dangerous stretch of asphalt.
