7 Jackson teens graduate from Consumers Energy school-to-workplace program
JACKSON, MI – A group of Jackson County teens on Wednesday became the newest graduates of a program meant to better prepare them to move from the classroom to the workplace. Consumers Energy celebrated the accomplishments of seven Jackson County Intermediate School District students May 22, with a special graduation ceremony. The students have spent the last year taking part in Project SEARCH, a model program that provides students with developmental disabilities with first-hand job training and experience, Consumers Energy officials said.

Tim Hortons anticipates opening its new Jackson location soon
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A new coffee shop is expected to open its doors very soon in Jackson County. Tim Hortons’s new location at 2550 Airport Road in Blackman Township is expected to open in June, company officials wrote in an email. Construction of the new location began in December 2023.
Michigan Center runner voted Jackson-area Athlete of the Week
JACKSON -- Voters in the Athlete of the Week poll in the Jackson area have selected Travis Collins of the Michigan Center track and field team. Collins is the regional champion in the 200, where he ran a 22.37, regional champion in the 400, in a school-record 49.44, part of a regional-champion 4x200 relay and part of a 4x100 relay which took third at the regional and qualified for state.

Jackson Northwest students get their flowers at 2024 commencement
BLACKMAN TWP – 213 graduating Seniors were honored at Jackson Northwest High School’s 2024 commencement ceremony Thursday night. Principal Scott Buchler opened the ceremony by noting that the Class of 2024 included some of the last students whose high school experiences were fundamentally altered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Man shot, injured in downtown Jackson parking lot
JACKSON, MI – A Jackson man was shot and injured early Sunday morning during an argument in a Jackson parking lot in the city’s downtown. Officers were called at 1:08 a.m. May 19 to municipal parking lot nine located at 112 E. Washington Ave. for a report of a single gunshot heard in the area, Jackson Director of Police and Fire Services Elmer Hitt said.
