BAY COUNTY, FL. ( WMBB ) – On Saturday, one local Mexico Beach favorite is celebrating quite the anniversary.

Cathey’s Hardware and Tackle is commemorating 50 years of being in business.

Cathey’s Hardware and Tackle opened up all the way back in 1974. Years later it’s still going strong.

The former Mexico Beach Mayor, Al Cathey inherited the hardware store from his parents. To celebrate the golden anniversary on Friday and Saturday, Cathey invited all the locals and his employees for hotdogs, cupcakes, and good company.

Funeral arrangements confirmed for former Florida Senator and Governor Bob Graham

“Mexico Beach is just dear to our heart and we, we’re just grateful that we had an opportunity to serve a community like Mexico Beach. I just want everybody to remember that we’re open for business. Thank you. Thank you to our community for 50 years of great memories and friends,” Cathey’s Ace Hardware owner Al Cathey said.

Cathey says his store would not be where it is today without his son Lee. He says Lee was one of the main reasons their business survived Hurricane Michael.

Cathey also says the future of the hardware store is in good hands and he’s grateful for the Mexico Beach community.
