Mexia Texas Police Chief Heath Crossland and School Resource Officer (SRO) M. Banks met with the Limestone County Crime Stoppers Board to share an upcoming Advanced Training opportunity.
SRO Banks wants to further develop skills and practices to best engage and support Limestone County schools and students. However, the cost of the course is not currently in the Mexia Police Department budget. That is where Limestone County Crime Stoppers comes in, to assist with funding the important work of Law Enforcement, Crime Prevention, and Public Safety.
Mexia Police Chief Heath Crossland accepted the check for SRO Training from Limestone County Crime Stoppers Board Member Carl Haddick on Thursday.
SRO Banks will receive training in July at the Texas Association of School Resource Officers
School Safety Conference in San Marcos Texas. The four-day training will give SRO Banks
additional tools to help connect with the students in Limestone County School Districts.
Today’s schools require a different set of law enforcement tools to be effective and safe, ie; how to recognize human trafficking, drug abuse, bullying, etc. SRO Banks, along with the teaching staff at each school, support school wide efforts to educate students on the consequences of unacceptable behavior, both in the school and the community. In addition, SRO Banks works to educate students in crime prevention and personal safety.
The overall mission of law enforcement in schools today is to support and promote healthy
relationships that ensure a safe learning and teaching environment. School-based law enforcement officers act as a resource to students, staff members, and the community to provide guidance in law enforcement matters.
Limestone County Crime Stoppers gladly supports School Resource Officer M. Banks' training and the Mexia Police Department as they continue to look for ways to safeguard and benefit the
communities of Limestone County.
