Two concerned citizens complained about sewer issues with the recent storms on April 8-9 to the City of Teague Board of Aldermen at their meeting on Monday night, April 15. Limestone County Primary Runoff Election to Determine County Commissioner Precinct 1 Seat coming up
The primary runoff election early voting is from Monday, May 20, to Friday, May 24, with the actual election day following closely behind on Tuesday, May 28. The runoff election in Limestone County pertains to the County Commissioner Precinct 1 seat and will be between Kendall Funderburk and Jody Goodman. In the initial Republican primary election, Funderburk was ahead by just 55 votes. As a reminder, you may only vote in the primary runoff if you initially voted in the Republican primary.
Harris qualifies for state in triple jump
, Teague junior J’Kybryen Harris felt good about his distance of 45 feet, 3.25 inches in the triple jump Monday afternoon in Waco. Harris, who jumped a then-school record 45 feet at the area meet on April 12, broke the record again on Monday, which was good enough for a third-place in the Region III-3A Meet at Midway High School. Then the waiting game took place. Harris cautiously waited to learn the results from the other three region meets in Class 3A. Fortunately, none of the other third-place finishers jumped farther than Harris, which gave him the wild card berth in the Class 3A state meet on May 2 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Harris will be the only Teague representative at the state meet. The top two finishers per regional event and top thirdplace finish in the state qualify for the state meet. Harris also competed in the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays. Joining Harris on the 4x100 was Bryce Bates, Kemauri Evans and Jehmel Rice; and Zak Leija joined Evans, Harris and Rice on the 4x200. Rice also competed in the triple jump and 200-meter run. Evans also competed in the 100-meter run.
Fast track: Blackcat junior high sprinters set school record
While Mexia’s sprint relay teams excelled this season, with the 4x200 quartet barely missing a state qualification, the junior high runners were scampering as fast as they could in an attempt to keep up with their high school counterparts. Mexia track coach Evan Simpson said the junior high’s 4x100 team set a school record that has stood for two decades and a number of other athletes made significant improvement in their times and distances over the course of the season.
