Smokey Bear Days return to Capitan to celebrate Smokey's 80th birthday. The occasion is only celebrated every five years. Entry for Smokey Bear Days cost $2 for ages 13 and up and $1 for kids from 7 to 12 years old. Children 6 and under are free. Austin Dawhan, 23, was allegedly traveling 114 miles per hour down 10th street in a blue Chrysler Sebring when he ran a red light and collided with a Saturn driven by 73-year-old Susan Diane Narveson, according to a report by the Alamogordo Police Department.
