Families looking to welcome the change in seasons with a change of scenery can do so at the 2023 Apple Festival a day trip away from El Paso and Las Cruces. The celebration of a bountiful apple season at Nichols Ranch and Orchards located in the Sacramento Mountains near Alamogordo will include live music, numerous vendors, and, of course, apples.

The Lady Wildcats (6-3), ranked #4 in the state AA, came out swinging in their non-district match against the Lady Panthers (5-6; ranked #13 in NMAA 2A) last Saturday in Tularosa, putting 15 points on the board to Jal’s 6 before Coach Nichole Segovia called a timeout. The Lady Panthers continued to struggle to keep up, especially with returning the Ladycats’ very strong serves. The Ladycats appeared to have a significant height as advantage as well, with excellent vertical leaping ability and the consequent ability to spike quite well. The final score of the first match was 25-8.

Cloudcroft candidate for Mayor Richard Welch hosted a public meet and around 5:30 pm in Cloudcroft that was disrupted by two leaders of the Democratic Party of Otero County. Mr. Welch is a Cloudcroft business owner and has been an outspoken opponent to street vendors on the main street of Cloudcroft. Along with other downtown merchants he has attended several community forums and voiced concerns with the present leadership and decisions that have made that he believes are not in the best interest of long term sustainability for the quality of life of Cloudcroft.

With Halloween, Thanksgiving not too far off, there is plenty to do in Alamogordo and Otero County to take in the fall season. Families can check out corn mazes and pumpkin patches to get into the festive mood. In October, there will be haunted houses, of course, for a fun fright and trunk or treats for the kids. For those thinking of fitness, there's a run for you.
