Widespread heavy rains look likely for next week

East Texas (KLTV/KTRE) - Good morning, East Texas! We are off to a pleasant start this AM with most locations waking up to temperatures in the middle to upper 60s and low 70s! Skies for now are trending partly cloudy, though we will see more sunshine across East Texas today compared to yesterday. High temperatures will remain above average again this afternoon, but the good news is that most will sit in the 89-91° range which is certainly doable compared to how hot we’ve been most of this month! Rain is not expected today or tomorrow, so no weather impacts are expected if you’re heading out to any area high school football games tonight. South winds and sunshine will lead to highs crawling back into the lower to middle 90s for Saturday and Sunday. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible starting Monday, but coverage does appear to be fairly limited at this time. Better shots at rain return late Tuesday and throughout the day Wednesday and Thursday as a strong upper-level disturbance grabs onto tropical moisture from the Pacific and swings a cold front into Texas which will bring multiple rounds of rain our way through the middle of next week. There is still a lot of uncertainty for next week, but similar set ups have brough the potential for flooding in parts of East Texas, so we’ll need to watch the forecast closely for updates as we get closer to the actual event. We’ll keep you posted with the latest on the First Alert Weather App!
