    Maroon girls fourth, boys fifth at Kingsford GNC match

    IRON MOUNTAIN — The Menominee golf team participated in the Kingsford Great Northern Conference match at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.

    The Lady Maroons finished fourth amid a congested field with a team score of 215.

    Kingsford (201) edged Marquette (207) by six strokes to take first place, while Escanaba (210) finished five strokes ahead of Menominee for third place. Gladstone was a distant fifth at 283 strokes.

    Lexi Marineau paced the Menominee girls with a team-low score of 50, putting her in fifth place. Ava Chouinard was close behind in sixth place with a 52, while Mackenzie Doyle tied Esky’s Lilly VanDamme for eighth place with matching scores of 54.

    Anna Axtell shot a 59 to finish 15th overall, while Jade Jasenovsky’s 70 rounded out the scorecard for the Lady Maroons.

    On the boys’ side, Jacob Schultz and Jonah Slawinski tied for the Menominee lead at 44, good for 14th overall.

    Nathan Schultz (48) and Keegan Wickstrom (49) both carded sub-50 scores for the Maroons, while a 61 from Connor Coduti wrapped up the afternoon for Menominee.

    The Esky boys won their side of Tuesday’s match with a combined low-round score of 157. Marquette (161) nipped Kingsford (166) by five strokes to claim second place, while Gladstone (175) and Menominee (185) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

    Escanaba leads the boys’ GNC standings, with the Eskymos (23) leading Marquette (20) by three points in the race for the conference title.

    Gladstone holds a three-point edge over Menominee, 13-10 for third place in the boys’ standings, while Kingsford is nipping at the Maroons’ heels with nine points.

    Esky and Kingsford are tied atop the girls’ standing with 20 points each. Marquette (18) lurks two points behind in third place, while Menominee (12) is seven points ahead of Gladstone (5) for fourth place.

    Menominee: The Maroons were at Escanaba for Esky’s GNC match on Thursday, with results unavailable at press time. Menominee will compete in the GNC championships at Kingsford (Pine Grove Country Club) on Monday at 9 a.m.
