MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is charged with attempted first-degree murder after shooting at a man the day he testified against him.

On Thursday, the Memphis Police Department responded to an aggravated assault in the area of James Road and Raleigh Millington Road.

When they arrived, they spoke with a victim who claimed his sister’s boyfriend, Tavious Wilson,19, followed him from court and shot at him from a vehicle.

The victim told officers that he’d testified that day in Division 7 at 201 Poplar for a shooting that occurred on January 10, where he was allegedly shot by Wilson multiple times following an argument.

The victim said after he was done testifying, he had to wait for his mother to pick him up from the courthouse. He then drove his mother back to her apartment and dropped her off.

That’s when he told police that as he was leaving the complex, he recognized a vehicle belonging to Wilson following closely behind him.

Police later found out that Wilson had been released on a $10,000 bond for the January shooting incident.

The victim said he immediately called 911 and notified the dispatcher of the situation. The victim attempted to lose Wilson while trying to give the dispatcher directions to his location for officers to respond.

Eventually, the victim came to the area of James Road and Raleigh Millington Road and Wilson was able to catch up to him.

The victim said Wilson pulled up next to him and rolled down his driver’s side window. He told police that he saw Wilson pointing a black semi-automatic handgun at him and then fired the weapon.

The victim’s vehicle was struck by gunfire and Wilson fled the scene, continuing on James Road.

The victim was able to find the Austin Peay Precinct and met with officers.

Wilson has since been charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and criminal attempted retaliation for past actions.

No bond information for Wilson has been released at this time.
