AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - The parents of the Akron man who was shot and killed in a road rage shooting last year are now getting ready to say goodbye to another child. Two weeks ago, the Jensen family watched a judge sentence the man who shot their son to death to at least 15 years behind bars.
Tornado hits near Akron on Colorado's Eastern Plains
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado hit Washington County in Colorado on Thursday afternoon. The tornado hit at 3:25 p.m. on the Eastern Plains. The tornado touched down about 13 miles southwest of Akron in Washington County. According to the NWS, it combined with another storm and was moving north-northeast at the time it touched down. Akron is located about 115 miles northeast of Denver.This is the first severe weather day of 2024 bringing with it the chance for large hail, damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. Currently, the greatest area of concern remains east of Greeley. In Broomfield, lighting is being cited as a possible cause of a house fire on Thursday afternoon. The family inside was able to escape unharmed. Lightning was also causing some issues with the RTD light rail trains on Thursday afternoon.

WEST AKRON: Officers from the Gun Violence Reduction Team and Street Narcotics Uniform Detail attempted to stop a driver at the intersection of Sunset View Drive and Copley Road April 15. The driver sped away, despite lights and sirens, and led police on a short pursuit through neighborhoods, driving erratically and running stop signs. The driver pulled over on Wildwood Avenue, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody on a warrant. The passengers were removed and a tow inventory was conducted, which revealed psilocybin mushrooms and a loaded, stolen handgun, positioned where the driver could access it. Another handgun, found in the glove box, was where a front seat passenger could access it. Both men were arrested on weapons charges and taken to the Summit County Jail. The driver was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of cocaine, found in his pocket.
