Reaction to closing of Cardinal Stritch ranges from disappointment to sadness
Tears, shock, and sadness greeted the news Thursday that Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School will close at the end of the year. “We were told when we got to school in the morning to go to the gym,” said senior Kelsey Anderson. She was still choking back tears as she left the school Thursday afternoon. “Everybody in the gym was crying,” she said when it was announced the school planned to close. “We thought it would have been better to close after we graduated, but that will not happen.” Senior Rasean Gordon said he didn’t see it coming. “We all should have known about this way before it was announced, especially the kids who are in sports. They should have known beforehand so they would have had time to transfer. It was very inconsiderate and unprofessional,” he said. Other Cardinal Stritch students expressed similar concerns and frustration. “They didn’t tell anybody until the last minute,” said Erick Graham, also a senior. “They tried to wait it out instead of just telling us straight out how it was. When stuff hit the fan, that’s when they told us.” Senior Breyon Jones said school officials could have, at the least, given a

She gave her lecture, Sex, lies, & government eyes: Censorship trends in the US, as part of the university’s 29th annual Banned Books Week observance. “Banning books is a way of erasing stories, identities, experiences, and peoples, and reshaping understandings of the past,” Ms. Barnes said. “That should echo what you’re seeing today.” The vigil, organized by the University of Toledo Banned Books Coalition, was held in conjunction with the American Library Association’s Banned Books Week, which aims to raise awareness about efforts to restrict access to books dealing with controversial subjects, history, and differing perspectives. “There are too many people who want to tell us what to read and what not to read,” said Paulette Kilmer, a professor emerita and coordinator of the UToledo Banned Books Coalition. “There are people who don’t think we
