    McAllen FD rescues man who crashed into canal

    MCALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — McAllen firefighters rescued a man after his vehicle fell into a canal on Friday night.

    The fire department says the accident happened at 9 p.m. on Friday, according to a release from the City of McAllen.

    When they arrived firefighters say they found a partially submerged SUV with a man inside the vehicle.

    First responders used a mechanical winch to prevent the SUV from sinking any further and to help pull the vehicle closer to the edge.

    The driver was rescued and was reported to have minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital.

    The cause of the accident is under investigation, the release stated.
