Music Spotlight: The Frontmen
While listening to my pal, Storme Warren on The Big 615, I heard him interviewing a group of men called The Frontmen on his show. And while their voices sounded familiar, I was unsure of who they were. It turns out that The Frontmen are a new country music trio,...
Dark Money Harms Policies and Silences Citizen Voices
Dark money refers to funds spent in politics and lobbying where the donors' identities are not disclosed. Without transparency, it can shape policies and influence elections while raising concerns about the integrity of the political process. I am concerned about the amount of dark money that is being spent on...

Why We Honor Memorial Day
“Courage, of all national qualities, is the most precarious; because it is exerted only at intervals, and by a few in every nation,” wrote David Hume. It takes courage to risk life and limb for our state and country. Norman Schwarzkopf said "It doesn't take a hero to order...

The Librarian
The first day of April is an important day in the history of Rutherford County because, in 1948, it was the day the doors were opened to Murfreesboro’s first public library—Linebaugh Public Library. Named after Mattie V. Linebaugh, the mother of the initial benefactor, our library is celebrating seventy-five years of serving everyone in our community. Having grown from that initial building to include six branch libraries and a bookmobile, the Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) has been an invaluable institution to all who know and understand the importance of libraries.

Spotlight on Cassie Petrey and Jade Driver/Crowd Surf
One of the things that has most surprised me as an entertainment journalist is how many people it takes for a song or singer to become notable. Besides the artist and the songwriter (who may or may not be the same person) there are backup bands, producers, and music engineers. To make sure the song gets proper copyrighting and credit, there are publishers. For anyone to even know the song/artist exists, there are PR agents, marketing, and promotions. And let's not forget accountants who make sure money earned goes to the correct places. If one is lucky enough, they may sign to a label that will take over some of these duties but if you aren’t making money for that label, your contract will soon end.

Christmas on Main Street, by Carol B. Ghattas
December marks one year of articles I’ve written for the Murfreesboro Voice, and many have surrounded memories of my childhood on East Main Street. We moved into the house on the four hundred block in the late 1960s and for the next two decades, it was home to the Browns. Full of activity on pretty much any day of the year, it was never busier than during the Christmas season.
