Runarsdottir caps off historic year with national championship
Texas State sophomore thrower Elisabet Runarsdottir cemented her 2024 season by winning the women’s hammer throw at the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Oregon. Runarsdottir recorded a 70.47 meter throw, breaking her previous record of 70.33 meters. The throw was a half-meter further than Rice University’s Tara Simpson-Sullivan’s second place throw of 69.94 meters.

This week will preview the Bobcats' Thursday night home game against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Arizona State is looking to bounce back from a rough 2023 season which saw the Sun Devils finish with a 3-9 record. The Sun Devils averaged just 17.8 points per game and allowed 31.8 points per game. Rattler teammates play at All Star Game
, Jessica DeLeon and Ava Serna competed at the Austin Area Senior All-Star Game last Wednesday night in Dripping Springs. The seniors represented San Marcos High School one final time before starting off on their collegiate careers. The duo helped lead the Rattlers to a 12-win season and double their win total from last year. DeLeon played catcher for the Rattlers where she was named to First Team All District during her senior year. DeLeon was also a regional qualifier in power lifting from 2022-2024. DeLeon will continue her softball career at the University of New Mexico, where she will play for the Lobos in the Mountain West Conference at the Division 1 level. Ava Serna was named Second-Team All District at second base and held on the infield for the Rattlers. Serna also earned First-Team All District honors in 2022. The Countdown to Kickoff series takes a look at the 2024 schedule for the San Marcos Rattlers. This week will preview a San Marcos home game against the San Antonio Wagner Thunderbirds. Wagner finished the 2023 season with a 7-4 record and a third place finish in District 12. The Thunderbirds three losses came against Dripping Springs, 5A State finalist Smithson Valley and future San Marcos district bunkmate New Braunfels Canyon. Wagner made it to the Bi-District round of the playoffs before the Thunderbirds fell to the A&M Consolidated Tigers 4517. Texas State wins second Bubas Cup in three years
Texas State won the Sun Belt Conference’s Vicas Bubas Cup, which awards the conference’s top athletic department. With the win, Texas State has now won its third Bubas Cup, and their second in the past three years. Texas State beat out runner-up James Madison 130.5 points to 126 points after the Bobcats trailed the Dukes heading into the spring sports season. The Bubas Cup awards the conference members points based on the sports sponsored by the Sun Belt and how each team finished during the season. This cup is named after Vicas Bubas who was the first Sun Belt Commissioner from 1976-1990, This year, Texas State was boosted when three Bobcat teams won their respective conference championships. Texas State women’s golf won their first conference championship since 2018 beating Georgia Southern in match play. Texas State softball hosted the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Tournament before running the table and winning their first tournament championship since 2018. Texas State women’s track capped off the season by winning the overall championship in the same weekend as softball.
