Crews contain 3 brush fires along northbound I-680 near Pacheco; Traffic impacted
PACHECO -- Firefighters in Contra Costa County have knocked down three vegetation fires that broke out along I-680 north near Pacheco Monday afternoon that impacted traffic, authorities said.The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District received reports of the fires I-680 between Pacheco and Marina Vista shortly before 2 p.m. By around 2:15 p.m., crews were able to stop the forward progress of all three fires. Drivers were being asked to avoid this area as fire crews expected to remain in the area to continue mopping up from the fires for several hours. Two northbound lanes of I-680 were still closed as of around 2:15 p.m. A traffic alert has been issued. Motorists are advised to expect delay and to use alternate routes. There is no estimated time to reopen the lanes, authorities said.The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is being investigated.
Woman arrested after stealing vehicle being cleaned at Fairfield car wash, police say
FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A woman was arrested on Sunday after police said she stole a car that was being cleaned at a car wash in Fairfield. The incident happened at around 4:19 p.m. After the suspect jumped into the vehicle and drove off, police were able to track the vehicle in Flock Safety, a license plate reading program.

Crews mop up 7-acre grass fire in Contra Costa County
CONCORD -- Contra Costa County firefighters said at 4:27 p.m. Sunday they were mopping up what grew into an approximate seven-acre vegetation fire off Kirker Pass and Hess roads.Northbound Kirker Pass was shut down at Myrtle Drive in Concord at the road's west end.The fire was initially reported to be on a 150-foot patch of grass before making a run up the steep hill.
Tom Steuby Appointed New Mayor Of Oakland
The city of Oakland has a new mayor. In a unanimous vote on May 17, the Oakland Board of Aldermen appointed Ward 1 Alderman and Board President Tom Steuby as mayor. Steuby will fill the unexpired term of Andrew Stewart, who was elected on April 4. Stewart closed on a home in Glendale and resigned as mayor on April 30.
Wrong-way motorcyclist killed after crashing into SUV in Vallejo
VALLEJO -- A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in a Vallejo neighborhood Sunday, police said.The crash happened on the 1300 block of Nebraska Street just east of Shasta Street. Vallejo Police said a 2009 Suzuki was headed west on Nebraska St. when it struck a 2010 Ford SUV which had also been going westbound on Nebraska and was making a left turn into a private driveway.The motorcycle struck the SUV on the driver's side; investigators determined the motorcyclist attempted to pass the SUV by driving westbound in the eastbound lane.Police said the motorcyclist, a 47-year-old Crockett resident, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. His identity was withheld until his family was notified.The driver of the Ford, a 47-year-old Vacaville resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Corporal Lenard Alamon of the Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division at (707) 648-4329 and refer to case #23-5400.
Antioch Mayor’s “Cowardliness Move” Called out by Torres-Walker
Antioch Mayor Pro Tem Tamisha Torres-Walker took to social media Friday to call the mayor a coward and was offended by hecklers at the special city council meeting.
