Amanda Janoo vows more support for Burlington if elected VT governor

Voters will decide this Election Day between sending Republican Gov. Phil Scott into a sixth term or offering Democrat Amanda Janoo her first. What does that mean for Burlington? As the final days of the campaign approached, we sought out each candidate to speak about the state's largest city. Scott's campaign declined three interview requests, saying the governor did not have time to talk the week before the election. Janoo, an economist, spoke with the Free Press on Oct. 28 before appearing at a rally later that day in South Burlington. “I think we're really blessed in Burlington,” said Janoo, who said she moved to the city in 2021. “I don't take it for granted at all. Like the waterfront — because most cities I've ever lived in in the world, the whole waterfront would just be condos and private access, things like this. So the fact that it's for the public is pretty remarkable.” On an ideal day — “before the campaign" — Janoo said she would walk with her dog to the waterfront and get a coffee and snack from Barrio Bakery — “so good.” But she said she, like other renters, has seen her rent go up

Adirondack ‘Hub’ towns target shovel-ready housing solutions

Roger Friedman, a semi-retired real estate agent in Schroon Lake, has heard the sentiment more than once from house-hunters ambling around the North Country. “They didn’t intend to reside here,” he said. “But they stopped their car, got out, felt this vibe in the town and said, ‘We don’t need to look anymore; we’ve gotta find something here.’”
