Police warning residents after black bear spotted in Abington

Police are warning residents to be vigilant after a black bear was spotted in Abington. According to police, the bear was seen in a tree near Mulberry Drive and Ames Nowell State Park. Police are urging residents to remain alert, keep children and pets close, and avoid approaching or feeding the bear. Anyone who encounters it should remain calm, slowly back away, and give the animal plenty of space to leave on its own. Residents are also being asked to secure trash, bring bird feeders and pet food inside, and avoid approaching the bear to take photos or videos. If the bear is in a tree, police said people should not gather underneath it or attempt to scare it down. Instead, residents should give it room to come down and move away on its own. Yet another fatality along Abington tracks

Police say an adult woman was struck and killed by a commuter rail train Tuesday afternoon, making it the 10th death along the tracks in town. The woman was walking along the right of way just south of the Summer Street grade crossing when she was struck by an inbound train around 4:10 p.m., Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in a statement. The woman was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries, he said.

Apparently, Plymouth has a parking problem. The proposed solution is to pave more of the town. According to the Plymouth Independent, the town is considering a $1.2 million to $1.5 million project to expand parking behind Nathaniel Morton Elementary School from 60 spaces to 150. The project would add nearly 10,000 square feet of pavement and provide free public parking outside school hours. Officials describe it as a “win-win.”
